Ballerup, Denmark, September 20, 2017 — Manufacturers of appliances that burn gaseous fuels now have a new option when seeking market access into Europe. In order to enter the European market, products must meet the Gas Appliances Directive (GAD) – 2009/142/EC. The GAD provides access to the European market for manufacturers of appliances and fittings that burn gaseous fuels, by helping ensure the safety of these products.  The scope of the GAD includes appliances burning gaseous fuels used for cooking, heating, hot water production, refrigeration, lighting or washing. Because of UL’s appointment as a Notified Body, manufacturers can now work with UL to meet requirements for market entry into Europe, as well as into the U.S. and Canada.

“We are now able to offer gas-fired product safety testing for the EU as well as for U.S. and Canada at all of UL’s combustion laboratories,” said Travis Hardin, business development manager, Combustion Technologies at UL. “Our customers that want to access the European market as well as the U.S. and Canadian markets can now work with UL for a more streamlined and efficient experience.”

The scope of UL’s GAD solutions includes:
• Safety devices, adjustment devices, control devices, radiant tubes, hot air generators
• Machines and appliances for the production and processing of bread and pastry products, and pasta
• Domestic cooking appliances burning gas fuel
• Gas-fired commercial cooking appliances
